Civil servants react to the church shooting
President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he had been “fully informed of the tragic shooting” and said that the White House “would continue to monitor this terrible situation”.
“Please join me to pray for all those involved,” said Trump.
Wednesday afternoon, Trump signed a proclamation asking for flags at the White House and in other federal buildings to travel the half-mast of August 31 “as a mark of respect for the victims”. The White House flags were lowered for a few moments after the signing of the proclamation.
Governor Tim Walz said he was informed of the shooting and “prayed for our children and teachers whose first school week was marred by this horrible act of violence”. Walz also said he spoke with Mr. Trump.
The mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, called for change after filming.
“Don’t say it’s a question of thoughts and prayers right now. These children literally pray,” said Frey. “It was the first week of school, they were in a church. They were children who should learn with their friends. They should play on the playground. They should be able to go to school or to the Church in peace without fear or the risk of violence and their parents should have the same kind of insurance.”
