The 53 designation from Mercedes-AMG has traditionally represented the mid-tier model, a balance between daily driving and all-out performance (43 is entry level, while 63 is at the top of the mountain). The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid is perhaps punching a little further above its class, offering a strong balance of power and all-electric range.

News of the AMG variant follows the announcement of the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLE, which features over 3,000 new or revised components and can serve as a rolling video-conferencing suite. Mercedes-AMG has taken the 2027 GLE’s foundation and further developed it in true AMG fashion, both in looks and performance.

According to Mercedes-AMG CEO Michael Schiebe, the reason for updating the AMG GLE 53 family was to provide more visual presence and digital services without losing the “typical AMG driving experience.”

The centerpiece of the new AMG GLE 53 Hybrid is an updated version of the M256M EVO 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. AMG engineers have revised the cylinder head, added new intake and exhaust ports, and fitted a larger intake system to ensure the six-cylinder breathes better at high speeds.

By increasing the boost pressure of the turbocharger to 21.8 psi, the engine alone now produces 443 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque. Pricing and availability

While official pricing for the U.S. market is forthcoming, the 2027 Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid is expected to arrive at dealerships in the second half of 2026.
