This App Switcher for Mac Is Way Faster Than Command-Tab
Command-Tab is one of the most used keyboard shortcuts of my Mac. This allows me to quickly switch between open applications, which is a crucial part of my workflow. But I am guilty of using too much applications at a time, and I started to meet the limits of the command order.
The most boring of these is that I have to press TAB too many times to access the application I want, because the order command passes via applications one at a time. This is why I use third -party alternatives to launch and go to my favorite applications. My favorite is Dory ($ 10), which is fast, has a nice interface and makes very fast and easy to open the applications I use.
How Dory works

When you throw Dory, he will ask you to configure a keyboard shortcut to switch between applications. I have configured mine, so I press the right control key for this, so I do not interfere with other macOS shortcuts, but you can use everything that works best for you. You can even use a combination of keyboard and mouse buttons, which is ideal for anyone on an desktop mac.
The Dory’s application switch can be configured to have one of the three provisions – a list, a palette and a fan. The first (list) is the simplest of the three. It displays all open applications in a horizontal list and you can click on the one you want to launch. The layout of the palette shows your open applications in a unique arrangement that looks like a bunch of sample cards. The provision of fans uses a circular menu to list all your open applications. I love the unique character of the layout of the palette (you can see it in the head image of this article), but I went with the arrangement of fans because it strikes the sweet spot between practicality and seeks me.

The Dory application application also displays a single letter next to your applications (for example: F appears under Finder), and you can press this key to pass. This means that you can open Dory’s Switcher app and press a single key to access your favorite application, which is very useful when your workflow involves moving regularly between 3 to 4 applications. If several applications have the same letter, the switch will reduce the list to these applications.
In the arrangement of fans, there is also a deploying animation that plays when you open it. It’s pretty pretty, but if you don’t want to sit every time you go to change applications, you can also adjust the animation speed to make the switch more snap. And if the application switch is too small for you, the three arrangements allow you to adjust its size. These two options are available under Dory General parameters Page, which opens automatically when you start the application.

Configuration of dedicated keys to launch certain applications

My favorite Dory feature is the possibility of permanently allocating certain keys to launch certain applications. Access Dory’s advanced settings to consult this feature. There, you can choose any application on your Mac and assign a specific letter to launch it. For example, you can choose Ulysses and assign the letter U to the application. Then you will have to press the rocket icon on the Settings page to activate and assign a launch shortcut. This allows you to use Dory as an application launcher.
From this moment, simply press the launch shortcut, then press the letter you have just assigned to start opening the corresponding application. Dory will ask you to confirm your choice, and you will just have to press the return key or click on the application tile in Dory before the application launch. Although the confirmation request adds an additional step, it also prevents accidental launches of the applications, so that I can see why the developer designed Dory in this way. Unfortunately, there is no way to get rid of the confirmation stage at the moment.
You can also hide certain applications of the Dory application, perhaps the ones you have always opened in the background, but that you rarely need to navigate. In Dory’s advanced settings, choose the application you want to hide and press the Eye icon next to it to switch it between the creation of the hidden and visible application.
