Although the Kindle Scribe received a redesign in December 2025, the 2024 model remains an attractive digital laptop. The Kindle Scribe 2024 is an upgraded version of Amazon’s oversized e-reader designed for note-taking, offering some nice improvements over the 2022 original. These upgrades don’t come cheap, however, with prices on the Kindle Scribe 2024 starting at $399.99 for a new reader (which is still significantly less than the new 2025 version, which starts at $499.99).

Right now, a like-new 32GB version of the Scribe 2024 is much cheaper: it’s offered at a discount. $260.99 (originally $377.99 and $419.99 for new), the lowest price this reader has seen for a refurbished model since its release, according to price trackers. If you’re looking for an AI-enhanced digital laptop, this is a great opportunity to pick one up at a great price (like-new devices still get the same 1-year warranty as a new device).

The original Kindle Scribe was released in 2022; this version currently costs $324.99 for a like-new 32GB model with the Premium Pen, which puts into perspective how good this deal is: you can get the three-year-old newer model for less.

That said, if you already own the 2022 version, there’s no compelling reason to upgrade: the main difference is that the 2024 version comes with the Premium Pen instead of the Basic Pen, while the tablet itself is shorter, narrower, and thinner, but not by much (you can even still use the same case). The new screen also has a texture, which will add some resistance when you write on it, for a more natural feel. The gap between the screen and the outer casing is also smaller. But that’s where the differences end.

What do you think of it so far?

The 2025 model has additional features, such as AI search and OneDrive integration, that are not yet available on the 2024 version, although Amazon has promised that many of these updates will arrive via a software update this year. Otherwise, you’ll get the same book-size compatibility, the same form factor, the same glare-free 300 ppi front-lit display, and the same 12-week battery life. If you don’t own a Scribe at all and are considering getting one, the 2024 version is a good choice at the current price: it’s 38% cheaper than the new 2025 model.
