Over the past few months, I’ve walked past the Ninja Creami at Costco thinking about our air fryer, toaster oven, bread maker, rice cooker, and stand mixer that are already competing for limited counter space. The new Chill ice cream maker from Nutribullet could finally break my determination thanks to its small footprint. While the Creami’s base measures 17.44 by 8.58 inches, the Chill’s is only 9.6 by 5.74 inches, making it easier to squeeze out on a kitchen counter and store for later once my family tires of homemade frozen treats.

The Chill is available now on Nutribullet’s online store and on Amazon for $199.99 and comes with a pair of 16-ounce tumblers. You’ll also need to provide all the ingredients for a process that involves mixing the ice cream base, pouring it into pint glasses that are frozen for 24 hours, and then churning the results until you achieve the desired consistency.

Many of these countertop ice cream makers are simply super-powerful blenders that won’t overheat or burn under the load of frozen ingredients. More expensive alternatives like the Ninja Swirl go even further by dispensing soft drinks, but the Nutribullet Chill has five presets that use its dual-sided, dual-direction blending blades to make ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, smoothies, or sorbets. I’m sure I won’t feel guilty about that impulse purchase while rummaging through a bowl of homemade rock road, at least until I open the cupboard and remember the cluttered mess that is our appliance shelf.
