The four astronauts of NASA’s Artemis II mission traveled further from Earth than anyone in human history, during a spectacular flyby of the Moon that brought spectacular images of the planet from rarely seen angles.

The crew of the Orion spacecraft lost contact with mission control for 40 minutes while circling behind the Moon, as planned. Once communications were restored, astronaut Christina Koch said, “It’s so great to hear from Earth again.”

The team also witnessed a total eclipse of the Sun as the Moon blocked its light, before beginning their journey home.

After the flyover, President Trump addressed the team and congratulated them: “Today you made history and made all of America truly proud, incredibly proud.”
