A nephew of the president of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who was at the center of a sex-tape scandal last year, was sentenced to eight years in prison for embezzlement.

Baltasar Ebang ENGONGA, the former National Financial Investigation Chief Agency, diverted money for personal use, tried a court.

Nicknamed “Bello” because of his beautiful appearance, the married machine acquired a reputation last year, when he appeared in disclosed videos having sex with different women – many of them and parents of people close to the center of power.

The leak occurred while he was in detention, accused of having deposited a huge sum of money diverted in secret accounts of the Cayman Islands.

He was found guilty with five other officials who would have claimed money as a travel allowance – The amounts varied from $ 9,000 (£ 6,600) to $ 220,000.

The arrest of ENGONGA last October and public humiliation was considered an attempt to destroy all hope that he had to become the next president of the central African state rich in oil.

His uncle is the oldest president in the world having been in power since 1979 and appointed his son, Teodoro Obiang Mangue, as vice-president.

ENGONGA is used to investigating crimes such as money laundering, but found itself at the infamous Black Beach prison in the capital, Malabo, after being accused of corruption.

His phones and computers were seized and a few days later, the intimate videos began to appear online in their dozens.

The authenticity of the videos has never been verified, but as the computer equipment was in the hands of the security forces, the suspicions fell on someone who flees it, perhaps to throw the reputation of Engona.

In addition to imposing a prison sentence, the court sentenced a fine to $ 220,000, the director of the Supreme Court, Hilaro Mitogo, was quoted by the AFP news agency in a WhatsApp message to journalists.
