Transcript: Trump Press Sec Seethes at Media as Epstein Fiasco Worsens
Sargent: What is striking in what you say is also the extent to which it infiltrates each party crevasse and its media apparatus. So you had this kind of adulation led by the public on a Thursday from many different quarters. I will read a few. The member of the Randy Fine republican congress said this about Trump’s Epstein problem: “I completely trust President Trump’s judgment on this subject. I think he was the most transparent president we have ever had. ” Alright. It gives a very vigorous handshake. Then you had the member of the Republican Congress Tim Burchett, who was invited to answer Trump calling his own supporters “Low stupids “to worry about Epstein. Bucchett said that:” He has a strategy in all of this, and I suspect that this will take place because he wins each time. “There is just an exaggerated quality that I find so disturbing, this cult behavior rampant at each last level of the party [and] Deeply in Fox News and the right -wing media. Everything is just omnipresent. It’s really alarming.
Jacob: RIGHT. Well, it really gives someone else your own rationality. There was another member of the Congress who said, Well, he wrote the art of agreement. He knows how to conclude an agreement. Well, obviously, he has really made a disorder of the whole price so far. So just decide that … Someone ghostly wrote a book for him a few decades ago is not really a reason to crush our economy. I think, tIncreasingly, support for Trump was a call to people to put aside what they believe, or at their request for facts to support their beliefs, and rather made an emotional call to people to simply go with the head of worship, simply accept what he says. AND Greg, you also see that with the NATO guy. The guy who is in charge of NATO realizes that the path The call to Trump’s ego is to call him dad and to say and act as, Well, he knows better than us to take care of all of us. And the NATO guy does not believe a little–you know that–But he called on Trump’s ego and Trump’s disciples because they want them to finance Ukrainian defense against the Russian invasion. SO This is all this call for emotion and this surrender–And it is not based on facts. For me, the last decade has been the people who have abandoned themselves where they no longer believe. They are simply subject to propaganda and decide who tells the truth. And whether they are or not, they do not evaluate what they hear. What they do is tHey just choose who will tell them what they want to hear–And then they listen to it and they simply exclude all the other proofs that exist. It’s really scary and it’s not American. This is not the way our government system has been set up.
Sargent: It is really, as you say, in a way this mass surrender, this dismissal of the brain of people to Donald Trump. We have this new poll from the Associated Press. Let me read some results. Only about a quarter of Americans say that Trump’s policies have helped them. Half of the Americans report that Trump policies have done more to hurt them since the start of the second term than help. It is less than 50% at each problem.
Jacob: Even immigration, on the right
Sargent: Yes, even immigration. It is 43% on its immigration management. It is a drop of six points compared to March. We have seen that in a number of other polls, some of which are even worse for him on immigration, that I take as a sign of deep underlying weakness that it is a central problem. And in addition to all this, Trump’s approval on the economy is due to around four out of 10, and 56% say that the expression “understands the problems faced by people like you” is a sentence that does not describe Trump well. It’s just Terrible things, and it is reflected by many other polls. I think you have this strangely proportional effect where the worst things go for Trump–whether on the ballot and in the country and on these other problems–The more the adulation of all these different voices swells and tries to support them.
