Acting Trump AG Erupts At Media’s ‘Weaponization’ Double Standards: ‘He Wants Justice’

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche lashed out at journalists Tuesday, calling reporting “completely false” about the “militarization” of the Justice Department.
The rebuke came after a reporter asked Blanche how he would balance President Donald Trump’s “relentless” push to “see his perceived political enemies prosecuted” with the administration’s stated goal of ending gunning at the DOJ. Blanche, who was Trump’s personal lawyer during the legal battles that followed his first term, refuted the existence of such pressure and pointed to the multitude of investigations launched against Trump under the Biden administration. “When you talk about militarization and it’s become a word that’s supposed to be a… when we talk about ending militarization, like it’s a bad thing for us. OK. The people in this room – OK,” Blanche said. “The people who have been in this room for four years, some of you, the same people who sat here with the last administration, have seen a militarization of this department, the likes of which have never been seen in history. And some of you are looking down now, and I understand because you had a president who was indicted four times by this department.”
In one such legal battle, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg obtained an indictment against Trump in March 2023, centered on a 2016 nondisclosure agreement with porn star Stormy Daniels, ultimately securing a conviction.
Special Counsel Jack Smith obtained indictments for Trump’s handling of classified documents and his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election. Fulton County Prosecutor Fani Willis also obtained an indictment against Trump for his efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election.
“You had a – you had a president who, with this department, had help. So this department helped two other local prosecutors prosecute the president,” Blanche continued. “You had this department sitting idly by while the states were trying to keep President Trump out of the election. OK. That’s what’s happened over the last four years. And so when you – when I’m asked questions or when I see news reports about the shock and awe at this so-called militarization of this department, this Department of Justice, it means nothing to me because it’s completely false.”
The Supreme Court said Congress alone has the authority to enforce the 14th Amendment’s “insurrection clause” in an unsigned March 2024 decision after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump was disqualified under the 14th Amendment’s provisions. Blanche reminded reporters that the administration is targeting the “bad guys.” (RELATED: Ro Khanna Vows Democrats Will ‘Impeach’ Trump If They Win House)
“What we’re doing and what we’ve been doing for the last 14 months is changing this department. This is changing this department. We’re no longer…people are saying the president wants to go after his political enemies. No, the president has said time and time again that he wants justice,” Blanche said. “And – and if you look at what happened to him, his family, his administration, the agents who protected him, the people who – who walked by him on any given day, had to – they were subjected to massive investigations by – by this department.
“So – so I – I understand the question and I understand the – the pretty consistent role of the media that somehow this ministry gets weaponized, but it turns out that’s not true,” Blanche continued.
