Former USWNT star Megan Rapinoe and WNBA legend Sue Bird have announced their separation after nearly a decade together.

According to Yahoo Sports, the two sports stars met in 2017. But, despite similar backgrounds and quite similar political views, they failed to make it work.

“There really is no easy or smooth way to share this news. After much consideration, we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” the former couple said in a joint Instagram post (It’s 2026, how else would they do it?).

“It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was one we made together, with so much love, respect and care for each other. We’ve shared a lifetime over the last decade, through big moments and quiet moments, and it’s something we will always carry with us.”

Man, the last thing I expected on this beautiful Friday afternoon was to see the conscious uncoupling of sports’ greatest lesbian power couple slide across my desk.

Honestly, if I expected this and it happened, I wouldn’t be writing this. I would be buying Powerball tickets right now.

Now, in these parts, you’re not going to find too many Megan Rapinoe fans thanks to her, uh, “outspoken” (read: bats, not crazy) nature.

That said, I would never encourage someone’s marital failures. It’s just cool.

Such a thing is not only difficult for both people involved; it’s also hard on their friends and family.

You can disagree with people and still wish them a pleasant personal life.

See, it’s not difficult, is it?

So, good luck to these ladies as they move on.

But there’s one question I asked myself as soon as I learned about the end of this relationship: what will happen to their podcast?

The two have a podcast together in which they — but let’s be honest, usually Rapinoe — deliver their views on hot-button topics like how the members of the U.S. men’s hockey team are a bunch of clowns celebrating with Kash Patel or how the IOC got it wrong when they finally put their foot down and said, “Alright, that’s enough, guys in women’s sports.”

Unfortunately (especially for us here at OutKick), they said they would no longer record on a weekly basis.
