Trump Is No “President of Peace”

President Trump’s recent decision to rename the Pentagon that the War Department has been applauded by at least certain analysts in the political system. Experts and spokespersons on the left praised the change as the truth in advertising. Probably thus, but it is a cold comfort when the author of this decision seems to want to give us war – and in fact already.
Despite Trump’s real file, from time to time, some expert analysts or think-tank suggest that if Donald Trump’s real instincts were to go into play, he could become our most improbable “peace president”. Some suggest that this is the case because, after all, he desperately wants to obtain the Nobel Peace Prize.
Others say that Trump will change the course and put himself on the path of peace because he has no fixed ideology, unlike the neocon faction among the trumpers ever – the men and women who brought you the war in Iraq, which Trump has jumped tirelessly in his 2016 presidential campaign.
In addition, Trump is transactional. He likes to conclude agreements, and he is ready to speak to only persons who can conclude an agreement in many cases, adversaries like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong one. The recent Democratic presidents refused to do so and, therefore, they flew blindly in efforts to resolve a conflict, simply because they did not know enough about the other parts.
But Trump the potential conciliator and Master Dealmaker have done a lot of things that suggest that he has no real interest in pursuing peace. His interest in helping to end the war in Ukraine has more to do with the release of arms race resources with China and militarization more from the American-Mexican border. And the new national defense strategy of its administration speaks so much of fighting the enemy inside as it does on the risks posed by the economic and military rise of China.
Add to that the bombing of Iran, the murder of so -called Venezuelan drug traffickers without regular procedure or approval of the congress, the continuation of the policy of Biden of funding and to allow the brutal attacks of Israel against Gaza, which many experts consider a genocide. And don’t forget the routine practice of ice agents masked to seize the streets on the street, or even to their homes, and to send them to detention centers in the United States or horrible prisons in Salvador.
Current number

In addition to all of the above, President Trump’s claims that his administration continues “deep cuts” in the Pentagon spending in the name of “efficiency”. However, the budget proposed for next year – triggered by additions contained in the badly named invoice, will exceed 1 dollars billion for the first time. It is much higher than the levels reached at the height of the Cold War or at the peak of Vietnam’s conflict once they are adjusted for inflation.
The decline against the militarization of our company and the massive transfer of funds to the war machine were not strong enough to make a difference – but. But if the victims of the burst of decrees emanating from the White House come together and fight – surrounded by people whose life and livelihood are threatened by the great ugly bill – an effective resistance movement can be built.
We therefore have a lot of work to do – by ourselves, among our organizations and by some of the institutions that have so far folded the knee to the Trump administration. But we have no other choice than to retaliate, and whatever the chances, I think we can bring back the tide of hatred and division.
Don’t let JD vance silence our independent journalism
On September 15, vice-president JD Vance attacked The nation by hosting The Charlie Kirk Show.
In a clip given millions of times, Vance has chosen The nation In a whistling dog to his far -right disciples. As you would expect, a torrent of abuse followed.
Throughout our 160 years of publication of fierce and independent journalism, we worked with the conviction that dissent is the highest form of patriotism. We were criticized by democratic and republican office holders – and we are delighted that the White House is reading The nation. As long as Vance is free to criticize us and we are free to criticize it, the American experience will continue as it should.
To correct the file on the false allegations of Vance on the source of our funding: The nation is proudly supported by readers by progressives like you who support independent journalism and will not be intimidated by those in power.
Officials of the Vance and Trump administration also established their plans for general repression against progressive groups. Instead of calling for national healing, the administration uses Kirk’s death as a pretext for a concerted attack on Trump’s enemies on the left.
Now we know The nation is at the front and center of their mind.
Your support today will make our critical work possible in the months and years to come. If you believe in the right of the first amendment to maintain a free and independent press, please make a donation today.
With gratitude,
Bhaskar Sunkara
President, The nation
