Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin rented each other on each other, but offered no details of their meeting of almost three hours in Alaska on Friday, the American president saying “great progress”, but no agreement had been concluded to end the Russian war in Ukraine.

Putin, speaking by an interpreter, described Trump’s efforts on Ukraine as “precious” and suggested that the two leaders had hammered “an understanding”. He urged Europe to “do not throw a key in the work” and to “not use transactions back” to torpedo it.
