While many people present at the shootout at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner were shocked by Saturday night’s events, UFC CEO Dana White appeared to be rather amused.

White, a longtime ally of Donald Trump, was sitting near the front of the ballroom hosting the dinner when the event was interrupted by the sound of gunfire. Rather than trying to find a safe place to hide during the chaos, White was excited by the scene.

“All of a sudden it started getting loud,” White told reporters of the aftermath of the shooting. “The tables were overturned, guys came in with guns and they were shouting, ‘Get down! » I didn’t come down – it was really great. I literally soaked up every minute of it. It was a pretty crazy and unique experience.

White said he initially thought the shooter was near him as security forces approached his table. “They came over to our table,” White said with a smile. “I thought the shooter was near us or something.”

The suspected shooter was apprehended by law enforcement and is currently in police custody. Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche said the suspect allegedly targeted Trump and senior members of his administration. He was named Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California.

White bonded with Trump over the president’s enthusiasm for the UFC, which has been credited with boosting his popularity among young men. Trump has announced a White House fight this summer to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States. The event will take place on June 14, the president’s 80th birthday.
