The Ministry of Justice continued the state of Minnesota for its immigration policies in the city of the sanctuary, which makes it the last locality to deal with legal threats while the Trump administration tries to carry out the campaign promise of the mass deportations president.

“Minnesota officials compromise the security of their own citizens by allowing illegal foreigners to bypass the legal process,” Pamela Bondi, the Attorney General, in a press release.

The Ministry of Justice added that Minnesota policies to refuse to cooperate with the immigration authorities are illegal under federal law and have led to the release of so-called “dangerous criminals”. Immigrants without a criminal record are now the largest group in American immigration detention.

The cities of Minnesota de Minneapolis, St Paul and the county of Hennepin join the ranks of Los Angeles, New York, Boston and New Jersey and Colorado states: the courts have led similar prosecution to their sanctuary city policies.

A judicial file of the Trump administration in June – in the midst of demonstrations against immigration raids – called the order on the city of the Sanctuary of Los Angeles and asked that it be prevented from being applied to allow the White House to seduce what it calls a “crisis of illegal immigration”.

During the summer, the Ministry of Justice sent letters to 13 states which it classified as “jurisdictions of the sanctuary”, in particular California and the Rhode Island, and 22 local governments, from Boston to Seattle, informing their leaders that they could face prosecution or lose federal funding to “under” and “obstruct” federal immigration agents.
