Nearly 23,000 pounds of ground beef have been recalled in three states due to E.coli contamination, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced Wednesday. CS Beef Packers, LLC, of Idaho, pulled the beef from shelves after tests detected the bacteria, which can cause serious infections. So far, no illnesses have been reported, but FSIS still assigned the recall the highest risk level, Class I.
The recall affects approximately 22,912 pounds of raw ground beef products sold as:
- Coarse ground beef, 73 L packed in cardboard crates containing eight 10 lb chubs; case code: 18601; use/freeze date: 04/02/26; timestamp: between 07:03 and 08:32
- Fire Rive Farms Classic Ground Beef 73L packed in cardboard crates containing four 10 lb chubs; case code: 19583; use/freeze date: 04/02/26; timestamp: between 07:03 and 08:32
- Fire River Farms Classic Ground Beef 81L packed in cardboard crates containing four 10 lb chubs; case code: 19563; use/freeze date: 04/02/26; timestamp: between 07:03 and 08:32
The products all have the same establishment number, EST. 630, and were sent to distributors in California, Idaho and Oregon for further distribution to food service establishments, such as restaurants.
FSIS is concerned that the recalled ground beef is still at food service providers, who are expected to discard or return the products. These items are unlikely to be found in consumers’ homes, but FSIS nevertheless urged everyone to prepare raw meat safely and only eat ground beef cooked to 160°F.
If you are concerned that you have consumed contaminated beef, watch for symptoms of E.coli, including diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting. Healthy adults usually recover within a week, but if your symptoms worsen, see a doctor.
