Thursday should be a quieter day on the hill, with only four scheduled meetings / audiences:
- Senate Credits – Affairs meeting to mark the “Law on Trade Credit, Justice, Sciences and Related Agencies”, “Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and related agencies ACT, 2026” and the “law on legislative branches, 2026”
- Senate Intelligence (SELECT) – Closed audiences to examine certain intelligence issues
- Senate energy and natural resources – audiences to examine the president’s proposed budget request for the year 2026 for the US Forest Service
- Senate Intelligence (SELECT) – Business meeting at closing to consider waiting activities pending
Although the house is not in session this week, that did not prevent some of its most micelish bulbs from sharing their “thoughts”, of course.

White house what’s new
The only official entry on the Thursday calendar Donald Trump is an intelligence briefing in the middle of the morning. I suspect that it will not be a quiet day for him or the White House. Just an intuition.

Yesterday, no overwhelming decision of the Supreme Court, but they refused the appeal of the Prosecutor General of Florida, James Uthmeier, on the new Florida immigration law, which will remain in suspense pending the appeal by the state of an injunction of the lower court.
We also learned two new costumes deposited by the Trump administration against the state of California on Wednesday, one on title IX and one on … Eggs.

Morning reflection
Speaking of floods, as a weather geek, I will take advantage of this opportunity to offer a public service ad to everything: do not park under the viaducts and do not drive in flooded roads.
Now, I will admit my own stupidity and ignorance: I thought that under a viaduct was the place where to be if the time became really risky, and I know that I am not alone in there. Guess what? This is not the case. First and foremost, you park there blocks the road / shoulder for everyone behind you, creating the probability of accidents, especially in low visibility and difficult situations. Second, if you try to escape a tornado or strong winds, guess what the viaduct does? Acts like a blower, which makes you more likely that you will be struck by flying debris and / or be sucked in the void.
Secondly, although I have heard repeatedly “turn around, don’t naying”, I panicked once because there was an unexpected and unusual flood on a major highway, and I did what the car in the tweet below has done (although the water is probably only half of it). It was the combination of being a highway (because the idea of turning around or stopping in this context is so foreign) and a strong constraint, but I messed up. I was stupid. I succeeded, but as soon as I did it, I kicked to be an idiot and I swore never to start again. Don’t be stupid like me. Use your Noggin.
