USMNT’s Brandon Vázquez tears ACL in blow to World Cup chances

Austin, Texas – Austin Brandon Vázquez FC striker has torn his right ACL, an injury that will hinder his chances of listing the United States for next year’s World Cup.
The 26 -year -old was injured in the quarter -final of the US Open Cup on Tuesday evening against San Jose. Austin said on Thursday that he would suffer an operation at the end of the season.
Vázquez fell without contact in the 69th minute, four minutes after converting a penalty kick that equaled the 1-1 score. He was removed from the land on a stretcher.
All-star of MLS, Vázquez joined Austin de Monterrey in January and leads the team with nine goals in all competitions this season. He has four goals in 11 appearances for the United States, but was not on the Gold Cup of the Concacaf Cup.
Austin won 4-2 on the kicks after a 2-2 draw and played Minnesota on September 16.
