Austin Dirks was hiking high in Arches National Park in the US state of Utah when his left leg suddenly sank into the ground. According to BBC partner CBS News, he used a GPS satellite messenger to alert rescuers of his exact location. Dirks said he spent two hours stuck in quicksand in temperatures of 20 degrees (-7 Celsius) before a rescue drone finally flew over his head.
