Video shows Kenya protests, not mass runaways from Cambodia’s internet sweatshops
Cambodian authorities have arrested thousands of raids on internet swindle compounds in July, but a video showing people along a highway does not show that workers fleeing scam centers. The clip was filmed during a demonstration in Kenya, where the demonstrators organized battles with the police.
“Mass exhaust of scam parks in Cambodia”, reads the simplified Chinese text on the clip shared on July 19 on Red Note.
The 45 -second video showed a group of people on a highway.

He surfaced after Cambodian authorities said 2,000 people had been arrested in raids, including at least 226 Chinese nationals after Prime Minister Hun Manet ordered The police and the military to repress the scam centers in the country in July (archived link).
Centers workers generally use a romance or commercial drawbacks to defraud web users with an estimate of $ 40 billion a year, but many say they have been treated or attracted to false pretexts.
The false complaint has also spread elsewhere on Bilibili.
Some users seem to believe that the clip has been filmed in Cambodia.
“These are all victims,” wrote a user.
Another commented: “Cyber-fraude is finally over.”
An inverse image search on Google showed a clip showing the same scene was downloaded to Tiktok on June 26 with hashtags that read “maandamano” – or “protest” in Swahili – and the date of June 25 (archived link).

The clip was shared after the demonstrators held RALThere remains the day to mark a year since the massive antigenal demonstrations before becoming violent, with eight killed and at least 400 injured while demonstrators held in progress with the police (archived link).
Google Street View Imaging has also shown that the clip had been filmed along Thika Road in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi (archived link).
