Virginia Voters ‘Chose Pragmatism over Partisanship’

Former Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), who was elected Virginia’s next governor and the state’s first female governor, said the state’s voters “chose pragmatism over partisanship.”
“Tonight we sent a message,” Spanberger told his supporters after several media outlets reported the election in his favor. “We sent a message to every corner of the Commonwealth. A message to our neighbors and to our fellow Americans across the country. We sent a message to the entire world: in 2025, Virginia has chosen pragmatism over partisanship.”
“We chose our Commonwealth over chaos,” Spanberger added. “You have all chosen leadership that will relentlessly focus on what matters most, reducing costs, keeping our communities safe, and strengthening our economy for every Virginian. Leadership that will focus on solving problems, not fueling division. You have chosen, we have chosen, leadership that will always put Virginia first.”
Spanberger’s comments saying his constituents have chosen “pragmatism over partisanship” come as a Heritage Action dashboard shows Spanberger with a five percent session score and a five percent lifetime score.
Heritage Action reported that regarding the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which “amends the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require states to obtain proof of U.S. citizenship and identity when registering an individual to vote in a federal election,” Spanberger was against it.
Regarding the anti-CBDC surveillance state law that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) introduced, Spanberger was also reportedly against it.
The state anti-CBDC surveillance law is described as prohibiting “a central bank digital currency (CBDC) from being issued by the government or the Federal Reserve.”
In an opinion article in the Fairfax County Timeswritten by Julie Gunlock, the director of the Independent Women’s Network, questions whether Spanberger could “truly be a moderate if she continues to run for governor” while continuing to support Democratic candidate for Virginia attorney general Jay Jones, who has considered a hypothetical situation in which he would shoot a Republican Virginia lawmaker:
Can Abigail Spanberger really be a moderate if she continues to run for governor while supporting Jay Jones for attorney general, a man who “jokes” about wishing his opponent’s children dead?
Virginia voters are smart enough to know that the answer to that question is a resounding no, and yet Spanberger continues to claim to be a moderate.
CNN was among the media outlets that called the race for Spanberger against current Virginia Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears (R). Spanberger and Earle-Sears were vying to replace current Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) because the state did not allow governors to serve consecutive terms.
Spanberger received 55.5 percent of the vote, or 1,417,595 votes, while Earle-Sears received 44.1 percent of the vote, or 1,132,958 votes, according to CNN.
Spanberger, a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer, promised that if elected, she would rescind Youngkin’s February executive order, which directs state police and local law enforcement to work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to identify and apprehend illegal aliens in the state.
Breitbart News also reported that on several occasions, when asked whether she supported biological males in girls’ locker rooms or playing women’s sports, she delivered word salads and avoided the question.
