Transcript: Indiana Republicans Could Block Trump’s Gerrymandering

Hunley: Well, for starters, we really want to keep similar communities together, and the maps that we adopted here in Indiana in our last redistricting, which we do once every 10 years, the maps that we adopted last time actually got an A for keeping communities compact together.
So you want whole towns together, whole counties together, whole townships together. Well, this map here divides that so that we have divided neighborhoods, divided polling places, divided entire cities. Indianapolis is not alone. Several other cities are being divided. But we want to make sure there’s holistic representation.
And if you’re in…we’re a big agricultural state, 72 of our 92 counties are rural. So if you’re in a rural county, you want to make sure that your needs are met, that people fight hard for the farm bill, that they fight hard for agriculture, that they fight hard for the environment and water.
