In an interview with ABC News on Monday, Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) said that in the battle over funding the Department of Homeland Security, Democrats have pushed to “keep ICE out of our airports and not fund this reckless agency until there are real, massive reforms, if at all, because the way they currently enforce immigration is dangerous.”

Booker said: “[N]Now the president is saying he’s going to pay for the TSA, which is what we’re starting to see happen. Why didn’t he do this months ago? This is what Democrats are calling for: defund the TSA, keep ICE out of our airports, and defund this reckless agency until there are real, massive reforms, if at all, because the way they currently enforce immigration is dangerous. They’re hurting Americans, detaining them, and we’ve seen them kill them. »

He added that the deal Democrats were pushing for was that “not another dollar will go to ICE until you move forward and make reforms. So we got this deal. The pressure is still there. ICE is still unfunded. And what we’re going to do is continue this fight. … And we have to stand up and stand together until changes are made.”
