White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday that she has given birth to her second child. She is the first person to give birth while serving in her position.

“On May 1st, Viviana aka ‘Vivi’ joined our family, and our hearts instantly exploded with love,” Leavitt said in a post on Instagram along with a photo of her holding her child.

Leavitt said her daughter, her second child, is “perfect and healthy” and her big brother is “adjusting to life with his new baby sister.”

“We are enjoying every moment in our blissful newborn bubble,” she wrote.

Leavitt, 28, gave birth to her first child, Nicholas or “Niko,” during the 2024 presidential campaign.

Her final White House press briefing was last week, on April 27, two days after the alleged attempted assassination of President Donald Trump and other officials at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Last Monday, she said she thought it was “prudent” to brief reporters at the White House that day in the wake of the dinner. “I hope and pray that this is the last time I speak to you for some time until after my maternity leave,” she joked at the end of the briefing.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio conducted the White House briefing in her absence on Tuesday. It’s unclear how long she will be on maternity leave.

Leavitt is the youngest White House press secretary in history and one of eight women in U.S. history to hold the position.

Oz Pearlman, the mentalist who was slated to perform at the correspondents’ dinner, said he guessed the name of Leavitt’s daughter just before the shooting took place outside the ballroom. “I believe the name was Vivian,” he told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl after the dinner about his prediction.

Vice President JD Vance and second lady Usha Vance are also expecting a baby in July, their fourth child.
