After two consecutive weekends marked by the onslaught of the Arctic, we are finally starting to leave the worst of the cold behind us. Although today wasn’t the warmest day, temperatures rose above freezing for the first time in a few days, allowing a very slow melting process to continue.

A much bigger warm-up is on the way for tomorrow as temperatures rise rapidly.

High temperatures in the 40s and 50s are expected to return just in time for Groundhog Day. In fact, it’s been almost two weeks since we last hit 40 degrees. Expect mostly sunny skies, although a few clouds may develop in the afternoon.

Tuesday brings a brief hiccup in the overall warming trend. A shortwave system is expected to move across much of the Midwest, but recent model trends continue to move most of this activity further east. Most of the Ozarks should remain dry, although a few of our easternmost counties could see a passing shower around midday.

The warming trend resumes quickly in the second half of the week, with temperatures returning to the upper 40s on Thursday. This weekend is looking even better, with temperatures in the 50s and a few places reaching the 60s mark.

Overall, the pattern looks very dry, with no major chance of rain or snow expected this week.
