Your 25W MagSafe charging puck needs an update

Apple juggles a large number of beta this month while he is preparing to launch iOS 26, iPados 26, MacOS 26 and the rest of his 2026 updates, but that does not mean that he has stopped working on the smallest updates of existing products. Last week, for example, we got iOS 18.6, and this week there is a new update of the firmware of the Magsafe 25W charger.
Before asking, we don’t know what it is. Apple does not provide publication notes for firmware updates like these, but it is probably linked to performance and stability. The new firmware in version 2A168 replaces the firmware 2A146 arrived earlier this year. In the Settings application, the new firmware is version 148, against 136. It is not clear if the version numbers are significant.
Again, the latest firmware is specifically for version 25W of the Magsafe charger, which arrived last year alongside the iPhone 16. Apple has issued several firmware updates since then, but none of them included the old 15W cable.
To check the cable you have, connect the charger, attach it to your iPhone and head to the Settings application. Then press General> and press the Apple Magsafe charger. If the firmware version is 128 or more, you have the 25W model.
There is no way to install the update directly on your charger. Instead, you will have to connect it, fix it to your iPhone and wait. The update must arrive within 30 minutes.
