7 reasons why I dropped Netflix for Apple TV+

Netflix is always perceived as the default TV streaming service on demand, offering films and series to more than 300 million paying subscribers. Despite its popularity and its important catalog, the platform has regularly increased prices while introducing changes that decrease the global user experience.
Apple TV +, on the other hand, offers a more limited library of content and has only attracted 45 million users. Nevertheless, after having used the two platforms for years, I canceled my Netflix subscription and I decided to adopt Apple’s alternative service. Here is why.
Sharing is attentive
One thing I despise is when technological companies pay free features instead of innovating to increase their income. Once upon a time, Netflix allowed several users to share a single account, even when they lived in separate households. In fact, the company encouraged this behavior in 2017 by tweeting “love shares a password”. To avoid improper use at the time, Netflix set simultaneous equitable flow limitations dictated by the level for which you opt. So regardless of the number of people access to a certain account, up to four of them could look at content at the same time. Sensitive and just.
To attract more paid subscribers, Netflix recently fell and introduced password sharing costs. Those who live in different houses must now pay additional slots or register for their own independent accounts.
Apple’s approach is more private and indulgent – and certainly not motivated by greed. Instead of sharing passwords, TV + uses the configuration of Apple’s family sharing. Up to six “family” members can access the service using their Apple Apple Personal connection identification information as long as a member is subscribed. The six users can simultaneously broadcast films and series, it doesn’t matter where they live. In addition, family members have their own individual queues, watch stories and lists of wishes, allowing everyone to enjoy their own pleasures of guilt in peace.
It works just abroad
Although Netflix generally allows you to look at content when traveling internationally, there are restrictions that demarcate the visualization experience. To start, the catalog offered will change according to the country you visit for license reasons. Thus, the show that you are currently watching can be blocked when you are abroad. Some users have also pointed out that the service ceases to work completely when leaving their country of origin. It is unpredictable and can be irritating.
Conversely, the Apple TV + catalog remains consistent even when you cross the borders (and without using VPN service). For example, my US Apple account allows me to access the American TV + library when Türkiye’s visit – where the service is also completely unavailable.

Quality on quantity
Speaking of the catalog, Netflix and Apple TV + adopted two very distinct approaches for their content. The old service constantly issues lots of new programs and films, many of which are inaccessible. I would regularly spend more than 30 minutes by session trying to find something of interest to watch, only to abandon the effort shortly after. In addition, many titles are authorized to third parties for a limited period, so I would feel forced to burn quickly through affected episodes before leaving the platform.
Meanwhile, Apple generally sticks to its original productions, which have gradually increased over the years. While the TV + library was too limited when it was launched at the end of 2019, it now offers a decent number of films and series extending on various genres. Thanks to the highest standards of Apple, the quality of the content tends to be superior, despite the lower volume. Without forgetting that Apple generally only releases one episode of a certain show per week, which makes less overwhelming for busy users to catch up.
See by yourself
Other Apple TV + advantages include a free trial, cheaper subscription fees and group access. Unlike Netflix, any new TV + user can try the service for free. By default, new arrivals get a 7 -day or 3 -month trial if they recently bought an eligible Apple product. After the expiration of the test, the plan may be renewed at $ 12.99 / month or $ 99 per year, and it contains family sharing without ads, restrictions or increased sellers, space audio support and the highest quality video available. Those who are already subscribed to the Apple One or Apple Music student plan can also enjoy TV +for free.
Then you have Netflix, which offers no free trials and the cheapest without advertising plan costs $ 18 / month. In particular, said level limits you to 1080p quality and excludes the support of Dolby Atmos. To take advantage of the 4K video and unlock immersive audio technology, you must go to the $ 25 / month plan.

A queue
The Apple TV application houses a ton of streaming services, including TV + and third -party options, such as Paramount + and Starz. This allows viewers to access all their favorite programs via a universal queue. For small reasons, Netflix refuses to support the functionality. When he accidentally deployed it a few months ago, he deactivated it immediately and called it an error. He chooses to retrograde the experience of its users due to the current disputes with Apple.

Another Apple TV + exclusivity is the information feature, which, such as the radiography of Amazon Prime Video, allows you to visualize the details on the actors on the screen. It also allows you to effortlessly add soundtracks to your Apple Music library. The functionality is cooked in Apple TV’s virtual remote control of the iPhone, which facilitates use when observing the big screen. You can also access it when you look at other devices, such as iPads and Macs.

Designed for Apple devices
Overall, the Apple TV application is more polite than Netflix and follows Apple’s design directives. Although the Netflix application is generally stable, its user interface is undoubtedly lower, and it lacks certain integrations of the operating system, such as integrated purchases and the aforementioned universal queue. Without forgetting that, unlike Netflix, the Apple application is available natively on macOS and supports offline visualization. In addition, each time an update of the major operating system is released, the TV application generally supports the features added on the first day.

Overview
While Netflix has a six -time subscriber’s advance on TV +, Apple seems to play long game here. It is slowly, but regularly, the expansion of his library with quality series and films that the higher percentage of viewers appreciates. And, as it is fundamentally a company of equipment, Apple does not use hostile patterns of users and dark to increase TV +subscribers. It lets the service develop organically, without dystopian stimulants.
This may not happen tomorrow, but if the two companies maintain their current instructions, I think that Apple TV + should exceed Netflix at some point in the next decade.
