DeSantis Shrugs Off Jeffries’ FAFO Threat, Drops Map Giving GOP Four Extra Seats – RedState

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) just released a new congressional map that could potentially give Republicans four additional seats in the Sunshine State. The move comes just days after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) made insulting threats against any effort by the governor to redistrict his state.
The proposed redistricting plan, unveiled Monday, capitalizes on Florida’s massive population boom and Republican voter advantage to create even stronger conservative districts. If approved by the GOP-controlled state Legislature, the new maps would turn what was already a solid Republican advantage into a potential +4 strength for the 2026 midterms.
“Florida was wronged in the 2020 census, and we have been fighting for fair representation ever since,” DeSantis said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Our population has since grown dramatically, and we have gone from a Democratic majority to an advantage of 1.5 million Republicans. Drawing maps based on race, which is reflected in our current congressional districts, is unconstitutional and should be banned.”
“Our new map for 2026 delivers on my promise of mid-decade redistricting, and it more fairly represents the makeup of Florida today,” he added.

Jeffries had tried to dissuade Florida Republicans from the move, mocking that any “DeSantis dummy” would backfire. Yes, he actually called him a “dummymander.” Because he’s five years old but he believes deep in his heart that he’s super nervous.
“Our message to Florida Republicans is: ‘Look around and find out,’” Jeffries said. “If they go the DeSantis sham route, the Florida Republicans are going to find themselves in the same situation as the Texas Republicans, who are on the run right now. The Republicans are fighting their way into the minority before a single vote is cast.”
And with that, DeSantis happily says, “Let’s figure it out.”

Not only did DeSantis immediately ignore the mini-Obama threat, he hammered him with a veritable atomic wedgie in response.
“I’ll pay for you to come to Florida and campaign,” DeSantis teased. “I’ll put you up in the Florida governor’s mansion. We’ll take you fishing. We’ll do all that.”
“There’s nothing better for Florida Republicans than seeing Jeffries…all over this state,” he added. “Voters won’t like what they see, they won’t want this type of ideology, so the door is open, the invitation is extended.”
DeSantis isn’t the only one who refuses to let Democrats dictate the rules. Back to those Texas Republicans who are supposedly “on the run.”
The U.S. Supreme Court just handed Texas Republicans a major redistricting victory by overturning a lower court’s block on the state’s new congressional map, clearing the way for a plan that could deliver up to five additional seats to the Republican Party in the 2026 midterms.
Virginia Democrats just passed a blatant mid-decade gerrymander aimed at flipping as many as four seats in their favor. If nothing else, these aggressive redistricting victories in Florida and Texas (and earlier victories in North Carolina, Missouri, and Ohio) help restore balance to the national map.
Editor’s note: The 2026 midterm elections will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both houses of Congress.
