Churches Are ‘Open Door’, Protesters Have ‘Right’ to Go In

On CNN’s “The Source” Monday, Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) said that when people find out that “someone who is supposed to speak for the community at church” is “a federal agent who runs ICE into their communities, they have a right to go in there.” “Churches have always been an open door,” and the people who broke into a St. Paul church this weekend were not violent.
Host Jim Sciutto asked, “Do you think it was a step too far for protesters to enter a church?”
Grijalva responded, “No. I don’t know. I think when they find out that someone who is supposed to speak for the community in the church turns out to be ICE – like a federal agent who runs ICE into their communities, they have the right to come in. The churches have always been an open door and, from what I understand, in the videos that I’ve seen, these protesters were not violent in any way.”
