Trump Signs House-Passed, Short-Term CR, Ending the Schumer Shutdown – RedState

President Trump signed the Revised Continuing Resolution, a short-term spending bill officially known as the “Continuing Appropriations, Agriculture (Ag), Legislature, Military Construction (Milcon), and Veterans Affairs (VA) and Extensions Act of 2026” on Wednesday evening, which will fund the federal government through January 2026, ending the Schumer shutdown once and for all.

RedState covered the House’s passage of the bill in a final vote earlier Wednesday, with help from a healthy cadre on the other side of the aisle, including Rep. Jared Golden (ME-6), who was the only Democrat to vote for the original CR more than a month ago.

As my colleague Sister Toldjah wrote:

It’s official: After a handful of Senate Democrats finally did their part on Monday, the House of Representatives voted to end Schumer’s shutdown and reopen the government Wednesday night by a vote of 222 to 209, with six Democrats voting in favor and the Republican majority, and two Republicans voting with Democrats against:

The House on Wednesday passed a sweeping spending package aimed at reopening the government, paving the way for the end of a marathon shutdown — the longest in U.S. history — that has brought economic turmoil to the country and sparked an internal battle among Democrats over the future of the party and how best to confront President Trump.

The vote in the lower house was 222 to 209, almost strictly along party lines. Only two Republicans opposed the measure to protest the budget deficit, while six Democrats jumped in to support it, citing the importance of boosting federal funding.

Close. Trump also took the opportunity to make remarks about what this would mean for the American people:

He went on to chastise Democrats for ‘extortion'[ion]” they inflicted on the country during the Schumer shutdown:

Trump added more about the pain felt by Americans, including air traffic controllers at the nation’s airports, and other public workers who did not receive paychecks, and those in need who did not receive SNAP to feed their families:

Editor’s note: After more than 40 days of screwing Americans, some Senate Democrats finally gave in. Shutting down Schumer was never about principle – it was simply about inflicting pain for political reasons.
