Brazilian Tourist Dies After Falling From Indonesian Volcano
A hiker who fell from a cliff on Mount Rinjani in Indonesia died after an intense four -day rescue effort.
According to information, Juliana Marins, 26, visited the Indonesian island of Lombok when the accident occurred. She hiked at the top of Mount Rinjani, the second highest volcano in Indonesia when she fell on Saturday, June 20. She was with a group of other hikers and a guide, and was late. Around 6:30 am, the other members of the hiking group heard her screaming and were able to see her at almost 1,000 feet on a steep slope.
In the coming days, the rescuers have desperately tried to save it, but a bad weather and a delicate terrain have hampered their attempts. On June 22, the rescuers realized that it had fallen further from its original position on the mountain and was now almost 2,000 feet from the place where it fell. At that time, the rescuers found that it was motionless on a rocky outcrop.
Unfortunately, on June 24, the body of sailors was discovered by teams from the Indonesian research and rescue agency.
“After four days of work, made difficult by weather conditions, soil and visibility unfavorable in the region, teams from the Indonesian research and rescue agency found the body of the Brazilian tourist,” wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil in a translated declaration. “The Brazilian government extends its condolences to the family and friends of Brazilian tourists for the immense loss caused by this tragic accident.”
