Scuderia Ferrari pilot Charles Leclerc responded to George Russell’s diatribe on the radio after the pilots collided during the Hungarian Grand Prix last weekend.

Leclerc’s pace has dropped considerably during the closing stadiums of the race due to a problem with the chassis of its SF-25. It not only cost him his race advance, but also a podium finish.

Shortly after Oscar Piastri exceeded it to obtain second place, Leclerc was attacked by George Russell. The rhythm of Russell being higher, he tried to exceed turn 1, but he was blocked by the Leclerc under braking. The aggressive move of the Ferrari driver has annoyed Russell, causing a rapid radio response. He said:

“It was moving under braking, it is clearly not allowed.” Russell also called for a penalty because this decision was against the rules. The incident drew the attention of the FIA, which imposed a five -second penalty on the Mongasque driver.

After the race in which Leclerc finished P4, he responded to Russell’s comments. He said:

“I knew I was on the limit, but I don’t have much opinion on this subject.

“I felt like I was moving before braking, then I slowed down, and obviously tilted my car to the apex, which I normally do.

“But I can imagine that George is quite vocal on the radio, which is normally the case. I don’t mind that it happens in a race like this.

“If there was a security car at the end of the race and I took a five -second penalty, I would probably have been much more frustrated, but that was not the case.”

Russell then provided another P3 finish. Speaking about the result of the race, he said:

“Yeah, really happy with the race today. Obviously, qualifications yesterday were a little surprised … All this weekend was a little surprising for everyone, but I’m so happy to be back on the podium.”

Reviewing his position on the incident with Leclerc, he added:

“It was a bit risky with Charles at some point!

“This is one of these when you hire a little bomb, if the driver in front moves, you are already at the limit of grip and there is not much room for maneuver.

“I think we have contacted the second time, but just happy to go through. It is a good way to go in the break. It is certainly better than the races that we have had so far, so I’m really satisfied with this.”
