A convicted Plainfield felon was denied bail Monday after being arrested over the weekend for possession of a loaded gun, officials said.

Deion Kidd, 30, of the 2100 block of West Kinsley Court, was charged with one count each of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon – prior felony conviction and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon without an FCCA or FOID card, according to DuPage County court records.

He also faces multiple misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges, including three counts of resisting a police officer and one count each of obstructing a police officer, improper turning, improper window tint and carrying or possessing open alcohol, according to court records.

Kidd’s prior convictions include aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in Cook County in 2014 and obstruction of justice in McDonough County in 2014, according to Paul Darrah, spokesman for the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

The arrest was made after Naperville police officers heading east on Odyssey Court around 11:20 p.m. Saturday observed a vehicle turn right onto Route 59 and cross to the far left, a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office and Naperville police said.

When officers pulled alongside the vehicle waiting to turn east onto Diehl Road, they had difficulty seeing the driver, but were able to observe him walk toward the glove box and then back toward the rear passenger floorboard, the release states.

Based on Kidd’s alleged movements, officers stopped the car, conducted a search and recovered a loaded .46 caliber Glock pistol. Kidd was handcuffed after trying to move away from a police officer during a search of the glove compartment, according to the release.

Officers could smell alcohol, according to the report, and a cup containing liquid in the front seat and a bottle of tequila in the trunk were located.

“As a convicted felon, Mr. Kidd lost his right to legally possess a firearm,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “Public safety remains the foundation of my office and the allegations that Mr. Kidd illegally possessed a loaded weapon are extremely concerning and will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

Kidd’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 2.
