CPB: Corporation for Public Broadcasting to begin shutting down its operations

Washington – The Corporation for Public Broadcasting announced on Friday that it will be starting a “liquidation of its operations” and would reduce the majority of its jobs by the end of September after the vote of Congress earlier this month to reduce $ 1.1 billion in its federal funding.
CPB told its employees on Friday that the majority of staff stations would be reduced before September 30, with only a small transitional team remaining until January 2026 to ensure “a responsible and orderly closure of operations”.
“Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote and asked the Congress to preserve the federal funding of CPB, we are now faced with the difficult reality of the closure of our operations,” said CPB president and chief executive officer Patricia Harrison, in a press release. “CPB remains determined to assume its fiduciary responsibilities and support our partners thanks to this transition with transparency and care.”
CPB’s outbreak comes after the Republicans adopted a package earlier this month, which included the zero of two years of funding – $ 1.1 billion – for CBP. This decision was part of President Donald Trump’s request to recover $ 9 billion from the federal budget.
CPB offers subsidies to local radio and television stations across the country, as well as producers of PBS and well -known NPR programs.
CPB said it would work to provide regular updates to stations and employees when operations are ended.
Trump has repeatedly called upon the congress to finance CPB. While the Congress considered the package, Trump threatened to hold his support for any Republican who voted against her.
“It is very important that all Republicans adhere to my stories [sic] The bill and, in particular, smashes the public dissemination company (PBS and NPR), which is worse than CNN & MSDNC assembled. Any republican who votes to allow this monstrosity to continue the distribution will not have my support or my approval. Thank you for your attention to this case! “Wrote Trump on his social media channel on July 10.
