Despite Prop 50’s Passage, Kevin Kiley, Other Targeted Republican Reps Commit to Stay in the Fight – RedState

As our editor-in-chief Jennifer Van Laar reported, California voters approved Prop 50, Gavin Newsom’s scam that essentially rejected maps drawn by the constitutionally mandated independent redistricting commission in favor of maps drawn by the California Democratic Party. The objective: to get rid of five seats held by the Republicans in the House of Representatives.

There was only one issue on the ballot in California this Election Day: Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Proposition 50, Election Rigging Act, which rejects the maps that the state’s constitutionally mandated independent redistricting commission spent a year drawing and replaces them with maps paid for by the DCCC and drawn by an extremist partisan in an effort to disenfranchise Republicans.

Although polls closed only 30 minutes ago and people are still voting in some voting centers, the race has already been called. Newsom can now boast that California has engaged in voter-approved gerrymandering that could decimate the state’s Republican congressional delegation.

Newsom comes to the White House for America’s election integrity and is hit by an embarrassing truth

Newsom preens and pontificates, thinking this victory has certified him kingmaker. Really, the only thing he’s made sure of is that Democrats locked out of the state Assembly and Senate can now run against the incumbents who hold those red district seats. Even though the maps have changed, there will still be a campaign to organize and voters to involve. Three representatives whose seats were targeted say they don’t plan to go anywhere.

In 2024, Representative Vince Fong won the Bakersfield seat from former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy when McCarthy chose to resign. Fong reached out to X to release a statement.

“As a result of Gavin Newsom’s campaign of misinformation and lies, millions of Californians will be left without representation in Congress. If Proposition 50 has shown us anything, it’s that Gavin Newsom is so desperate to be president that he’s willing to crush the state constitution and rural communities to pursue his personal ambition.

Our efforts to bring common sense to California will not stop: I will continue to stand up to Gavin Newsom and be a strong advocate for the millions of forgotten Californians whose voices have been silenced. The fight for California has only just begun, and I’m all in. »

Rep. Darrell Issa, whose once-conservative San Diego district was carved up, issued the statement to Fox News.

NEW: Republican Congressman from California @DarrellIssa is one of five GOP representatives that Democrats are trying to oust from power by redrawing their districts to be more Democratic-friendly. Issa provides this statement to @FoxNews in response to Prop 50 which should be adopted:

“California is my home. And it’s worth fighting for.

I know what many of my friends and constituents think about tonight’s election results and the unprecedented, purely partisan campaign that has pitted neighbors against neighbors and divided the state like never before. It was difficult to watch Gavin Newsom and Sacramento’s special interests attack the state’s constitution, disenfranchising millions of Californians solely because of the way they vote and giving Democrats what they know is an undeserved advantage.

But here’s something Newsom and his cronies don’t know: It won’t work. The worst gerrymander in history has a fatal flaw. Voters can choose their representatives. Not the other way around.

I’m not going anywhere. I will continue to represent the people of California, regardless of party or where they live. I’m not giving up on California. And no one else should do it either.

Newsom’s biggest foe, Rep. Kevin Kiley, also had his say on Newsom’s supposed victory. Kiley affirmed his intention to stay in the fight and continue to make a difference as the duly elected representative of his district.

Kiley posted a video on X and said in part:

I will answer this call from voters and work across partisan lines to find a national solution to the centuries-old scourge of gerrymandering. And in particular, to the more recent affliction of mid-decade gerrymandering. In fact, I have already introduced a bill to do just that and it has strong bipartisan support.

Unlike many in the Republican Party, Kiley knows how to play the long game and strive to find solutions that will bring the process back to the people in the short term and for the future.

The reason I opposed Proposition 50, even though I also opposed what happened in other states, is because I believe that fighting fire with fire burns everything. With California’s new gerrymander, the redistricting arms race has no end in sight. North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana for the Republicans. Illinois, Maryland, Virginia for the Democrats. And for what purpose? It is a race to the bottom that degrades democracy everywhere. It is both a symptom of our country’s political divisions and a worrying new trend that is sure to further deepen this division. Tonight, more than ever, I believe excessive partisanship is one of the greatest challenges facing our country.

Like Fong and Issa, Kiley has made it clear he’s not going anywhere and will run for another term. Kiley also illustrated that Newsom can do whatever he wants to rig the issues, but he does not control the will of voters to choose who they want to represent them.

When I first ran for Congress three years ago, I pledged to be an independent voice for our district. Fighting for all Californians and working to overcome the political divisions in our country. I believe this mission is even more important today. That’s why I’m committed to winning voter support for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives next year.

Politicians can change the lines on a map, but they can’t tell you how to vote. In a democracy, the power to choose our representatives always rests with you, the voter.

Newsom is aiming for the 2028 election, but the 2026 midterms will determine whether he has power or influence. Fong, Issa and Kiley have drawn their line in the sand and are fully entering the fray.

Continue the game.
