Emirates reveals plans for the world’s first en-suite bathrooms on planes

Major airline Emirates has announced plans to introduce private bathrooms on board its planes – the first in the world to do so.
The UAE’s national carrier is already known for its luxurious interiors and impeccable service, with private cabins and high-end restaurants on board – but it’s about to take it up a gear.
However, not just any type of bathroom will be added.
The airline’s president, Tim Clark, said: “I’m working on en suite bathrooms in first class suites.
“I want everyone to hear this so everyone will rush out the door to find out how to get toilets in first-class suites.”
Speaking via video at the Capa Airline Leader Summit 2026 in Berlin last week, he shared his plans for the aircraft’s latest upgrade.
With Emirates, first class cabins are available on board the A380 or Boeing 777 jets.
The news was revealed by The National, which added that no commercial airline currently offers private bathrooms to all passengers traveling first class.
The bathrooms already available on board Emirates first class are luxurious, with ‘spa showers’ – and they’re about to get even better.
Soon, not only will the bathrooms be well equipped, as shown, but new private bathrooms will be introduced.
This follows last year – for the second year in a row – Emirates winning the Best International Airline award.
This is no surprise, given the carrier’s popularity and reputation for luxury, elegance and high-quality service.
The airline received this distinction in Forbes Travel Guide’s second annual Verified Air Travel Awards.
Emirates also won other awards, such as Emirates First Class on the Boeing 777-300ER as Best International First Class.
Currently, on board Emirates in first class you can access fine dining, an on-board spa shower and the lounge bar at any time.
Onboard Boeing 777s, you also get “your own private hotel room in the sky,” the airline describes.
The seats feature technology such as temperature controls and ambient lighting, as well as soft leather seats.
Passengers can also treat themselves to unlimited caviar, accompanied by vintage Dom Pérignon champagne.

Despite being the first airline to launch private bathrooms, many other luxurious upgrades have taken place on airlines in recent times.
The Etihad Residence has a private lounge, an en suite shower room and toilet and a separate bedroom with a double bed.
Additionally, last year, United Airlines introduced Polaris Studio Suites, 25% larger than its previous business class seats.
Travelers enjoy luxury perks like Ossetra caviar, Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Champagne, regionally inspired tapas, plasma masks and branded hooded pajamas.
And Air New Zealand is set to offer economy class passengers access to bunk beds on some routes.
