If you are in Apple’s ecosystem, there are few holes better suited to your devices than airpods. Airpods synchronize between all your Apple devices, sound well and ships with features like Live Translate and even a heart rate monitor. However, the problem comes if something happens to your buds, especially when your battery is starting to lose its ability to maintain a load. Unlike your iPhone, whose battery is easily replaceable, airpods are not easy to repair. In this case, they may not be repairable at all.

It seems that this has not changed with the latest Apple headphones, the Airpod Pro 3. Ifixit has put the most recent AirPods Pro thanks to a disassembly test to see how repairable they could be. The result? A huge zero out of 10: totally unshakable.

Airpods Pro 3 cannot be repaired

There are a number of problems in the design of AirPods Pro 3 which leads to the Ifixit declaration here. The main one is that Apple chooses to seal the entire case with strong glue. In order to open the buds, you must heat them to loosen this glue, then open with the buds with sharp tools. You must both avoid melting the plastic of the headphones themselves, while also trying not to disfigure the case while cutting it. It is a difficult balance.

Once inside, however, the problem continues. The battery is also maintained with a strong glue, therefore, once again, you must apply heat without melting the earpiece itself. Even if you successfully remove the drums, it is extremely difficult to enjoy all the elements here – or, to God, preserve us replace Should one of these elements break. Apple designed these headphones to pack a ton of technology tiny Packaging, with glue and welding, which means that you run the risk of destroying crucial components when you move them. It is too easy to accidentally ruin microphones or noise cancellation technology here.

The same goes for the switch of buds, and even the AirPods Pro 3 case: the two are all glued and are too easy to destroy while trying to open or repair a component. In fact, Ifixit says that these “repairs” are so difficult, many repair workshops do not even care. Between the need for special tools and the risk of failure, they simply give up attempts to repair the AirPods.

This nothing new for Airpods. According to Ifixit, all the previous Bluetooth headphones from Apple have the same problem. In this case, all AirPods models – at AirPods Max – have obtained a zero out of 10 on the Ifixit scale.

What do you think so far?

Are there any repairable headphones?

While many other headphones mark better on the repair scale, many do not come out of it much Better than AirPods. Scroll the Ifixit list, and you will find other scores ranging from zero to three out of 10. It seems that many companies follow Apple’s advance here and weld their batteries and components with glue.

However, there are winners here, according to Ifixit. The undeniable champion comes the Fairphone Fairbuds, which obtained a perfect 10 out of 10. The headphones are easy to replace, the case is modular and easy to disassemble, and Fairphone offers parts and replacement instructions. Samsung’s live Galaxy Buds is the finalist with one out of 10: they are also repairable in fairbuds, but they do not have official instructions or repair parts, other than batteries for headphones. The WF-1000XM4 of Sony marked a respectable seven out of 10, because they also have easy batteries to replace with a modular case, although they do not include parts or official instructions.

If your main goal when you buy headphones is repairability, you have options. If you want the best experience possible when you use your Apple devices, AirPods is always where it is. Know that when something fails, like the battery or another component, your apple headphones are sort of toast.
