Ilhan Omar, Democrats Demand ICE Leave Minnesota After Man Fatally Shot By Border Patrol

Democrats in federal, state and local office in Minnesota demanded that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) end enforcement operations after a Border Patrol agent fatally shot a man Saturday following a fight in Minneapolis.
The man was killed during what a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) statement published on X described as a “targeted” enforcement operation at 9:05 a.m. local time. Democrats immediately condemned the shooting and many demanded that President Donald Trump end the operations. “This appears to be an execution by immigration enforcement,” Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar said in a message to
This appears to be an execution by immigration law enforcement. I am absolutely heartbroken, horrified and appalled that federal agents murdered another member of our community. It is beyond shameful that these federal agents are targeting our residents instead of protecting them.

“I saw with my own eyes video of yet another horrific murder by ICE agents this morning in Minneapolis. It’s sickening,” said Minnesota Democratic Rep. Angie Craig, a candidate for U.S. Senate. “The agency is out of control. How much more evidence do my Minnesota Republican colleagues need to speak out?”
Other Minnesota Democrats called for ICE to leave in social media posts after the shooting.
“There has been another shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis and I am working to get more information. I will update as soon as possible,” Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar said. “To the Trump administration and congressional Republicans who have remained silent: Remove ICE from our state NOW. »
“Donald Trump and all your lieutenants who ordered this ICE surge: watch the horrific murder video today. The world is watching,” Klobuchar added in a second message. “Thousands of citizens arrested and harassed. Local police are no longer able to do their jobs. Children are hiding. Schools are closed. Get ICE out of Minnesota NOW. And Republicans in Congress: stop being silent and stop being complicit.”

ICE swooped into the Minneapolis area to target illegal immigrants from Somalia after reports of fraudulent spending on Minnesota social programs exceeding $9 billion. Whistleblowers in other states, including Maine and Ohio, have alleged that similar schemes by Somali scammers took place. Additionally, more than 500 child care centers are under investigation in Washington state.
Klobuchar’s colleague, Democratic Sen. Tina Smith, echoed that request, alongside Democratic Gov. Tim Walz.
“Another catastrophic shooting in Minneapolis by federal agents,” Smith said. “We are gathering more information, but ICE needs to leave now so MPD can secure the scene and do its job.”
“I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota had it. It’s sickening,” Walz said. “The president must end this operation. Remove thousands of violent, untrained officers from Minnesota. Now.”
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Walz also demanded that the federal government step aside when it came to investigating the incident, saying federal agents would “obstruct” efforts to “ensure justice.”
I told the White House that the state should lead the investigation.
Let state investigators ensure justice. While we process the scene, stay peaceful and give them space.
The state has the personnel necessary to keep people safe – federal agents must not hinder our ability to do so.

Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also called for an end to immigration enforcement in Minnesota during a press conference Saturday afternoon.
“End this operation and, I tell you, our city will come back,” Frey said, addressing Trump. “Security will be restored, we ask you to act now to remove these federal agents.”
