Insider makes bold claim on Steelers HC Mike Tomlin contract leak

Following the news that the Pittsburgh Steelers will need to make a decision regarding the future of HC Mike Tomlin, a well-respected insider made a bold claim about the origin of the contract details leak.
Earlier in the week, Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Gerry Dulac claimed that Tomlin’s agent was responsible for leaking information on the the 2027 contract option news, previously reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“First of all, that’s coming from Mike Tomlin’s agent, because it’s not coming from the Steelers,” Dulac said via 102.5 WDVE. “Because they don’t discuss anything that’s going to happen after the season, during the season. From that end, I know where that’s coming from. The stuff about the option, I mean, I’m not going to sit here and dispute it because I know this, a couple contract extensions ago, they gave Mike Tomlin, it was a one-year extension with a one-year option. And ever since then, I just assumed, and maybe even before that, there was always an option clause in his contract.”
Last Saturday, Schefter reported that the Steelers will need to decide by March 1 whether to pick up the 2027 team option on Tomlin’s contract, or whether to let his deal expire following the 2026 season.
Pittsburgh’s decision to pick up the option on Tomlin’s deal may very well come down to whether or not he can finally turn the ship around come playoffs, with the win over the Baltimore Ravens at least setting the Steelers up to control their post-season destiny.
