Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist candidate for mayor of New York, said the city should honor the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) arrest warrant issued for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to visit the city.
“I said this is a city that believes in international law, and this is a city that wants to elevate and uphold those beliefs,” Mamdani told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum on “The Story” Wednesday.
MacCallum then challenged Mamdani, saying, “The United States does not stand with the International Criminal Court.”
Mamdani acknowledged that the United States did not sign the treaty for the International Criminal Court.
Mamdani keeps his promise to arrest Netanyahu if he comes to New York.

“The Criminal Court, however, issued an arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu, as it did against Vladimir Putin,” he continued. “I said that I believed that we should enforce the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court and that we would only do so…by respecting all the laws before us.”
Mamdani said he would not make new laws to ensure Netanyahu could be arrested.
MacCallum then asked Mamdani if he thought New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch would allow him to arrest Netanyahu in the city.
Mamdani refused to answer the question and, when asked again, said: “I can tell you that I will exhaust all legal options available to me, without making new laws to do so. »
Netanyahu faces an ICC arrest warrant linked to alleged war crimes in Gaza. The United States does not recognize the ICC.
The mayoral candidate also notably refused to give any credit to President Donald Trump during the interview regarding the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas obtained last week.
“Whether it’s credit or not, I think it’s too early to do it, too early to tell,” Mamdani said. “But if it turns out to be something lasting, something lasting, then I think that’s where you give credit.”

“I don’t really have an opinion on the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and security and the fact that everything must respect international law, and that applies to Hamas, that applies to the Israeli military, applies to anyone you might ask me about,” Mamdani said.
