More than 77 tons of frozen shrimp recalled because of radiation risk

Aquastar (USA) Corp. From Seattle, WA, recalls more than 155,000 pounds of frozen Kroger shrimp because it may have been contaminated by radioactive materials.

The 77.5 tonnes of Kroger shrimp were sold at Baker’s, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fooddso, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Graves, Jay C, King Soopers, Kroger, Mariano’s, Metro Market, Pay less supermarkets, pick ‘n save, ralphs, Smith’s and QFC stores in Ak, Al, Ar, Az, Az, Co, Id, Id, Id in Ak in, KS, Ky, La, Mi, Mo, Ms, Mt, NE, NM, NV, Oh, Oh, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WA, WA, WV and WY between June 12, 2025 and September 17, 2025.

Consumers have to be feared to have shrimps in their freezers because of its long shelf life, which reaches 2027.

The recalled products are Kroger Raw Colossal Ez Peel Crevel in 2 pound bags, Kroger Mercado cooked with peeled tail shrimp cooked in 2 pound bags and skewers of raw -raw tail shrimp in bags of 1.75 pounds. To see photos of all the shrimp recalled, click here.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the shrimps may have been prepared, wrapped or held under unsanitary conditions by which they may have become contaminated by Cesium-137 (CS-137).

CS-137 is an artificial cesium radio-isotope. The primary health effect of concern after repeated exposure to a short term in the longer term by consuming food or contaminated water over time, resulting in a high risk of cancer, resulting from DNA damage in living cells of the body.

The FDA examines if the shrimps can be contaminated after being shipped in contaminated containers. To date, no contaminated shrimp has been found.

The skewers recalled with raw, raw aquastar tail shrimp; Net wt. 1.25 lbs., Is packed in printed plastic bags with a black top and a blue background and printed photos of the skewers inside, and has the following codes:

The FDA actively studies the reports on contamination by CESIUM-137 (CS-137) in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products treated with PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, doing business like BMS Foods, from Indonesia. No disease has been reported to date. As indicated in the FDA Declaration published on August 19: “At present, no product that has been tested positive or alerted for CESIUM-137 (CS-137) has entered US trade.

“The FDD works with distributors and retailers who received products from PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati after the date of the first CS-137 detection by Customs & Border Protection (CBP), but shipments that have not alerted the CS-137, to recommend that companies lead a reminder. In conjunction, the FDA determined that federal products, of PT. Drug and cosmetics law in that it seems to have been prepared, wrapped or owned in unsanitary conditions by which it may have become contaminated by the CS-137 and can pose a security problem. »»

Consumers who have bought affected shrimp should not consume the product and should dispose or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
