Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton clashed with South Carolina Republican Rep. Nancy Macé during testimony before the House Oversight Committee, according to footage released Monday.

Thursday’s deposition in Chappaqua, New York, featured a heated exchange during questions from Mace. The congresswoman asked Clinton how she knew the former CEO of Singer Fitzgerald and Trump administration Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Clinton claimed to have met Lutnick following the September 11 terrorist attacks, when she was a Democratic U.S. senator from New York. Clinton said she knew him as the CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, which suffered one of the greatest losses of life in that day’s attacks, losing more than 650 employees. The former first lady then described how Lutnick’s life was spared because he had taken his child to preschool that morning and was not in the towers when the planes struck. Mace stepped in and said she already knew this information.

At that point, Clinton raised her voice and pointed at Mace.

“You asked the question, I’ll answer your question, that’s what I spent my time doing,” she said.

The MP also raised her voice, saying: “Now you’re going to yell at me?

Mace claimed she was a “survivor trying to take care of other survivors.” She added that it took six months to get the statement and accused Clinton to be “outraged”.

Clinton responded that she was “taking care of the people who lost 3,000 lives at the World Trade Center. You asked me about Howard Lutnick.”

Mace went on to allege that Clinton had emails showing that she “tried to get Jeffrey Epstein to give you money.”

“If you have an email from me asking for money from Jeffrey Epstein,” Clinton said before Mace continued his questioning. (RELATED: Comer says committee ‘collected new facts’ from Clinton depositions)

Mace responded, claiming she had an email from Lutnick, “sending it to Jeffrey Epstein and his team to raise money for an event, an intimate event for you at his offices at Cantor Fitzgerald. Your decision today – obfuscate and tell this committee, you did not try to get money from Jeffrey Epstein.”

Clinton responded, “I didn’t.” »

Mace continued to ask questions during the heated exchange.

“That there was an intimate event in an email that Howard Lutnick sent to Epstein’s people and to Epstein to get him to come to your intimate event at the Cantor Fitzgerald, a very small event. I’m not going to stand for it. If you want to yell at me, that’s okay, I’ll get back to you right away. I’m doing the work that you wouldn’t do and refused to do as Secretary of State,” before thanking you and giving him back his time. Clinton said she was “sympathetic” to Mace’s “personal situation” and his efforts to defend alleged survivors. She reiterated that when she was a senator, she represented those killed on 9/11 and said no one had lost more people than Lutnick.

She noted that she knew him as “the man who lost employees he knew intimately, including his brother.” Clinton added that she attended memorials in the years following the terrorist attack, before the exchange ended.
