Ohio county agrees to $7M settlement over man’s death after jail guards restrained him, family says

Dayton, Ohio – The family of a deceased man after being held in a prison in the Ohio county said on Tuesday that she had entered into a 7 million dollars settlement agreement with the county and that officials pushed officials to prevent something like death from happening again.

A lawyer for Christian Black’s family, who died on March 26, said that Montgomery County had taken responsibilities and that civil servants said they would take measures, such as adding hospital beds for people with mental health aid.

But the lawyer, Michael Wright, also told journalists at a press conference that he and Black’s family wanted to see more, as prison agents accused and sentenced in the death of their son.

Christian Black’s mother Misty Black said that the family’s trial rules against the county of Montgomery does not end him in pursuit of justice for her son.

“This check does not stop the criminal side,” Misty Black told journalists. “It won’t make me go. I am here. Justice for Christian Black. I will not stop until justice is done.”

Christian Black, 25, was in prison after crushing a stolen car, police said. There, a video of the interior of the prison published by the Black family and the lawyers showed Black inside a cell, shouting and hitting their fists and heads against a glass door several times.

Nine deputies gathered outside the cell, with a little rushing. They pinned the black on the ground and put him handcuffs before fighting it in a chair of restraint, showed the video.

Black’s head collapsed and collapsed while he was in the restraint chair. The video showed that the prison staff checked Black’s eyes, took their blood pressure and rubbed the chest when he did not respond to the chair.

About nine minutes have passed between the moment when he was placed on the chair and when the prison staff started the RCR, the family lawyers said.

Black died two days after being taken to the hospital. The County Coroner’s Office said Black was probably died of a positional asphyxiation, which occurs when the trunk cannot develop, samping the body of oxygen. His death was tried homicide by the coroner.

Heads of the county of Montgomery did not answer questions on the settlement on Tuesday. No prison staff were criminally charged.
