‘Rare’ for Democrats to Say ‘Do Not Abolish ICE’

On Newsmax TV’s “American Agenda” Tuesday, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said he was “one of the few Democrats who said we shouldn’t abolish ICE” and that the push to do so is stupid. He also said that “ICE already has all of its money,” so the vote on defunding DHS “is largely symbolic, because it’s not going to defund.”
Fetterman said, “I would like to remind people – and, in fact, my colleague from Kentucky pointed this out – ICE already has all of its money. So this vote is largely symbolic, because it’s not going to defund. And, again, I, too, as a Democrat, [am] one of the few Democrats to say we shouldn’t abolish ICE…it’s just stupid, it’s outrageous to think that kind of thing[s].”
He added that if the DHS funding bill is separated from other funding bills, “that’s going to change the dynamic, but if that doesn’t happen, it would almost guarantee a shutdown of our government, and I wouldn’t be willing to not pay our military and hurt other parts of our government, especially to remind people that it’s not going to change the ICE situation at this point.” »
