The Google TV Platform Will Soon Display YouTube Shorts Videos Directly On The Home Page

The Google TV platform benefits from many new features via a software update. Probably the biggest new thing here is a new YouTube Shorts integration. The platform will soon display a row of personalized Shorts directly on the home page.

In other words, the short-form vertical video format continues to move away from phones and onto larger screens. Disney+ recently jumped into this trend with the introduction of an in-house vertical video platform. Google even apparently left the door open to integrating other platforms, as the announcement states that this feature “starts with YouTube Shorts.” Time will tell if TikTok and Instagram Reels will make their way to Google TV compatible devices.

The platform is also adding generative AI features because it’s 2026 and no device is safe. The Nano Banana AI Picture Generator is now available on the Google TV platform, allowing users to “bring the room with laughter” by adding “twists and twists to any photo”.

The company is bringing video generation tool Veo to the platform. This allows people to create videos via prompts. You know the principle. Google gives the example of a user requesting a video of their grandfather performing a dance in space.

This update also brings a few smaller features. Google Gemini has been integrated into the Photos app, allowing prompt-based queries. This app also received the Google Photos Remix AI editing suite.

The YouTube Shorts integration won’t happen until this summer, but everything else is already available. Most of these tools only work with Gemini compatible devices.
