This Gruesome Cave Nightmare Is One of My Favorite Horror Movies of the Century
The frightening season has arrived, offering the perfect time for a horror film marathon. Many frightening films have deep and dark woods or desolate places, but one of my favorites takes place at the bottom of the ground.
When a group of friends decides to listen to in a system of local caves, they are prepared for the inherent claustrophobia of tons of rock which flock around them … but not for what is hidden in these caves.
The descent is a 2006 horror movie that you can watch for free with a privileged video subscription. This film has been scary at the heart of the public for almost 20 years, offering diabolical monsters hiding in dark tunnels. It is a classic cult infused with notes of terror in each framework.
I have been a fan of horror films for as long as I remember, starting with classics from the 1980s like Pumpkinhead. Over time, I found horror movies to which I come back, even when I know how they will end. The descent is absolutely one.
The descent offers a claustrophobic experience and filled with dread – if you don’t like tight spaces (I’m not doing!), It’s even worse. Whenever I look at, the fatal disaster makes me cover my eyes and shout on television while events become uncontrollable.

The film begins at the conclusion of a Rafting Rafting in Live Water where six women got up and had a good time, but on the house by car, the head of head Sarah loses her husband and their daughter in a car accident that breaks her world. This tragedy sets the tone for the whole film, warning viewers that things will only get worse.
Which starts as an adventure of fun friends quickly dissolves into madness and terror.
A year after the fatal car accident, the six friends come together for another adventure. Their plan is to spend a day shirking in a system of caves from North Carolina in the Appalachian mountains. Things start well, but Sarah finds herself stuck in a particularly narrow passage. She manages to wiggle, but a rock falls behind her leaves all the women trapped deep underground without knowing how to go out.
One of the friends, Juno, then admits that they are not in the exact cave system she had reported to the local authorities but rather in a section never explored. They are entirely alone, without hope of help.
While women are progressing more deeply in the cave, looking for an outing, they find old climbing equipment with a painting that could indicate a way out. Another member of the group, Holly, rushes forward with a sign of light, before falling into a hole and breaking your leg. While the other women take care of her, Sarah looks around and sees a creature drinking in a pond of water before she notices her and rushes into darkness.
The “crawlers” in the descent are terrifying creatures that live in dark spaces.
After that, things are going very badly, much worse. Women meet a large piece full of animal bones, as well as the creatures that fed them. These pale humanoid monsters that women jostle the “robots” attack them viciously in darkness, while they retaliate as best they can.
Holly, hampered by her broken leg, is the first victim of the crawlers, and she quickly dragged into the dark. In the chaos that followed, Sarah is unconscious, while Juno accidentally stabs the friend Beth in the neck. June fled, but not before Beth grabbed a pendant around his neck.
When Sarah regains awareness of a horrible view. She looks at tracks fighting for her friend’s body and realizes the total gloom of the situation. Sarah, however, refuses to abandon, and curlled for a fight, prepared to find her way on the surface.
I will not spoil the third devastating act. You will have to look at yourself to find out if Juno and Sarah survive the horrors of the tunnels and robots that inhabit them. At just under 100 minutes away, this dark plunges into terror works very well as a film marathon, or a fast night film.
The descent delighted the public for two decades and quickly reached classic status for a good reason – it is a closely rhythmic and very frightening film that takes you deeply under the ground, delivering a story and characters that you do not forget. Now broadcast it on Prime Video, to discover all the terrors that the caves hide.
