Zohran Mamdani’s First Veto Shows You (Again) Exactly What Type of Guy He Is – RedState

Zohran Mamdani issued his first veto as mayor of New York on Friday, revealing once again that he is not a friend of the Jewish people or a supporter of law and order.
The democratic socialist spent about three and a half months at Gracie Mansion proving that he governs exactly the way he told us: by supporting far-left policies, threatening punitive tax increases, refocusing government on “fairness” (which is basically just legalized discrimination), and demonizing the rich — the very people who support the Big Apple.
Today, the man who refused to condemn the term “globalize the Intifada” vetoed a bipartisan measure intended to keep students safe during protests. What were the most violent and destructive protests we have seen in New York in recent years? You got it, the 2024 pro-Hamas and anti-Jewish conflagrations at Columbia University and on city streets, as well as the January anti-ICE protests, to name just a few.
Mamdani seems to want to let the rioters do what they want:
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is drawing backlash after using his first veto to derail a bipartisan bill aimed at combating anti-Semitism by expanding safety guarantees during protests at educational sites.
“This could impact workers protesting ICE or students demanding their school divest from fossil fuels or demonstrating for Palestinian rights,” Mamdani said in a statement Friday.
“This is a bill that has alarmed much of the labor movement, reproductive rights groups and immigration advocates, among others, throughout this city.”
Last month, the City Council passed two bills related to the constitutional right to protest: one for places of worship and one for educational institutions.
Today, I am allowing one bill to take effect and vetoing the other. I’d like to take a moment to explain why.

As Mayor, I will always ensure that the rights to protest, to pray, and to protect are guaranteed to every New Yorker.
Yeah, especially if they’re violent anti-ICE or pro-Hamas protesters.

Former Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo, who I usually criticize for his disastrous COVID response, alleged tendency to sexually harass staffers, and other weaknesses, was actually on point in his response:

Cuomo:
Let’s put it like it is: @nycmayor chose the whims of his radical far-left DSA base over the safety of Jewish students and New Yorkers in a time of rising anti-Semitism. Instead of governing for all New Yorkers, Mamdani has repealed the very definition of anti-Semitism from the city’s books, changed the way anti-Semitic crimes are counted, and has now vetoed these common-sense security measures when they are needed most.
I proudly stand with my Jewish brothers and sisters – just as the Cuomos always have and always will.
Let’s be real, the Cuomo brand has suffered a lot of hits in recent years, but it’s hard to argue with his views on this one. Meanwhile, it’s impossible to argue that Mamdani misled voters or got a quick vote out of them – no, that’s exactly how we were told he would govern. The sad thing is, far too many New Yorkers either didn’t listen or didn’t care.

🚨‼️ RARE rebuke from major Jewish organizations against Mayor Mamdani’s expected veto of School Protest Safety Bill (175-B):
“This veto constitutes a profound failure on the part of City Hall to demonstrate to all New Yorkers that our safety is a priority.”
