The Battlefield franchise was returned to its former glory with the release of Battlefield 6 earlier this month. The multiplayer military shooter is about to launch its first season of content and events, which will bring changes to the game as well as a new free Battle Royale mode.

Update 1.1.1.0 for Battlefield 6 will begin on Tuesday morning, and on the same day Redsec, the game’s Battle Royale mode, will also be released, according to posts from the official Battlefield account on Monday. The season one patch is set to go live at 5 a.m. ET/2 a.m. PT, while Redsec launches at 11 a.m. ET/8 a.m. PT.

Redsec marks the franchise’s second attempt at battle royale mode. Battlefield V had Firestorm mode launch in March 2019, five months after the game’s launch. It attempted to capture the battle royale craze at the time, but it was largely forgotten by players, particularly with the release of Call of Duty: Warzone the following year.

The Battlefield account didn’t provide many details about the upcoming Battle Royale mode in Monday’s post, aside from a 10-second trailer. Developer Battlefield Studios, however, revealed some information last month.

A Battlefield Labs update on September 10 outlined player testing and some of the changes made ahead of the mode’s launch. According to the developers, Redsec will have a new map where players will be able to have access to transport vehicles and will eventually be able to unlock armored vehicles to use during a match. During testing, players grouped themselves into teams of four, but it’s unclear if there would be an option to play individually.

Like Battlefield 6 matches, players can choose their class before the match starts, but they won’t be able to change it mid-match. They will be able to earn XP in a game by defeating other players or completing missions, and as they progress, players will unlock new traits to improve their soldier. Over the course of a match, the possibilities for destruction are everywhere, as walls and buildings can be destroyed to stay within the map’s shrinking ring, which the developers say will be extremely deadly to those who venture outside when it collapses.

Before Redsec goes live, the first update to kick off Season 1 will be released with a host of improvements, including refined animations, improved weapon accuracy, visual improvements, and map fixes to address issues that arise during a match. A longer list of what’s changed with this first season has been posted on the game’s official X account.

Battlefield 6 is now available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles.
