The investigation into mortgage fraud on the New York Letitia James Attorney General Attorney is stopped because federal agents and prosecutors do not believe they have sufficient evidence to obtain a conviction if the case should be tried, two senior law enforcement officials said on Wednesday.

The White House and several senior administration officials continued to push the Office of the American Prosecutor for the Oriental District of Virginia to request an indictment against James, who carried a civil fraud case against Donald Trump after his first mandate as president.

ABC News first pointed out developments in the case of James.

A great jury has heard evidence, but so far, the prosecutors have refused to request an indictment.

One of these senior officials said that “there is no clear and convincing evidence” to show that James knowingly made false statements to a financial institution to obtain a better mortgage rate for his House in Virginia.

The American lawyer’s office for the Virginia Oriental District refused to comment.

Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, sent a letter of criminal reference to the Ministry of Justice in April, alleging that James “seems to have falsified files in order to meet certain loan requirements and receive favorable loan conditions”.

The letter referred to three properties: James’ house in Virginia and two in New York.

The allegations center on a document linked to the house of Virginie James bought in 2023, which she and her lawyer wrongly claim that the property would be her main residence. They say that it was a mistake and that it is the only document linked to the purchase of the house which indicated the designation of main residence; The rest of the loan documents claim that the house would not be the main residence of James.

Pulte and the acting former American lawyer for the Columbia district, Ed Martin, who is now leading the working group of the Ministry of Justice, directed the accusation for James to charged.

In a letter of April 24 to the American prosecutor General Pam Bondi, James’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, described the criminal dismissal as “three pages of outdated allegations and fumes with no reason to proceed with the exception that those based on media relationships’ ‘and are the next salvo of the revenge of President Trump against the prosecutor General James”.

Martin sent Lowell a letter last month exhoring James to resign from his post as a prosecutor general, claiming that “the good of the state and the nation would best serve by de that his functions to resolve the reference problems”.
