The new president of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, is expected to arrive on Tuesday in Berlin for his inaugural visit.

German President Frank-Walter, Steinmeier, plans to welcome his Polish counterpart with the military honors in front of the Bellevue Palace in Berlin, then talk to him.

Later, Nawrocki should meet Chancellor Friedrich Merz for an exchange of views.

One of the subjects of discussion should be the request for repair of Poland for the damage suffered during the Second World War in the hands of Hitler Germany.

A spokesperson for Nawrocki announced that the nationalist president “would definitely approach” this question.

The Party of Law and Conservative Justice of the Opposition (PIS), of which Nawrocki is close, had set up a parliamentary commission on this issue during his stay in government. Three years ago, this commission estimated the amount of repairs at 1.3 Billion of euros (1.5 billion of dollars).

From the point of view of the German government, the question of repairs has already been legally settled. Steinmeier has also repeatedly reaffirmed this position.

Before the visit, the German government stressed the importance of close relations with its neighbor to the east. “German-Polish relations are truly a central cornerstone of our entire foreign policy,” said Deputy Steffen Meyer government spokesperson.
