Smearing NYC’s horse carriage trade again

Lady, an apparently healthy carriage horse, collapsed and died on Tuesday walking towards her stable after having only given two rides. Almost immediately, Nyclass’s animal rights extremists said Lady died because she was a horse -drawn horse -drawn horse – and driving drivers universally claimed, overcharged and abuse their animals.

They started to publish graphic photos of Lady lying in the street on social networks and had dozens of protest panels printed by the rush featuring its corpse. For the 7000th times, they have called to ban our emblematic carriage horses.

However, they did not have the decency to wait until a necropsy was played, which would provide medical facts on this sad and rare event. Nor a handful of opportunistic politicians who were so desperate with attention that they quickly jumped on the NYCLASS train: The candidate for the town hall Curtis Sliwa, the city councilor Bob Holden, the city councilor Erik Bottcher and the deputy Linda Rosenthal. “There has been no reprehensible or neglect act here,” said Dr. Gabriel Cook, Lady veterinarian.

Unfortunately, the animal rights extremists – who think that having a horse gives a carriage ride in a park is akin to slavery – spit several times. A handful of politicians then repeat these insidious manufacturing, which include:

• “Horses work all day in traffic in New York.” FAKE. The emblematic horses of Central Park spend almost all their time outside their stables in the central park of 843 acres. Very few customer journeys are in the streets of the city. The time they spend in the street is largely limited to their march towards and from their stables.
• “Horses pulling cars are cruel.” FAKE. These are large horses high selectively over the centuries to transport people and materials. The money they earn from rides pays for their food, housing and health care as required and specified by regulations in New York.
• “Horses are stressed by the city.” FAKE. A scientific study evaluated by peers from Western University and published by Javma in 2017 showed that New York car horses have normal cortisol levels, indicating that they are not stressed and well acclimated to urban life.

This does not mean that there could not always be any improvements. The union and industry have implemented a certain number of reforms and improvements in the past three years, including the creation of a security committee to increase internal surveillance. The city can – and should provide additional monitoring. There was a full -time equine veterinarian in the Ministry of Health who kept an eye on the horses of Central Park Hiddle and the many other places in the city where horses are located. As a long -standing spokesperson for truck drivers and Steward of the Union Shop, I never particularly like to be in the news – and the tragic and unexpected death of Lady is certainly worthy of interest. Our horses are loved, attracting tourists from around the world and local passengers celebrating special events.

However, the recent projector was an opportunity to invite people to our stables, educate the public on our horses and expose the particular interests of animal rights for what they are: fanatics that are not interested in helping the horses of the car but only to use them.
